Evaluation of Brittany Williams Class Help Page

Evaluator Participants

Lisha Ewing is a colleague of mine at Francis Howell Union. She is the academic counsler and schedules the stuednts classes each semester. I choose to use Lisha because she works very closely with our students and talks to them about the troubles they are facing in classes (not just mine). She talks with the students as well as the teachers about how we can help the students and what they say they need for help during class. Lisha used a HP windows 7 and used google chrome to evaluate my website.

Rhonda Eugea is a colleague of mine at Francis Howell Union. She is the Special Education teacher in the building. She works with all the same students as I and she used to teach a Sped math class so she know what students need to be sucessful in math class. I work very closely with Rhonda on our students but especially the students I have in class with IEP's. Rhonda used an Apple Macbook and Safari 9.1.1 TO evaluate my website.

Laura McLaughlin is a colleague of mine at Francis Howell Union. She is the fine arts teacher and I wanted her to look at my site becasue she knows the target students I am trying to hit and she can look at my site for creativity and for spacial awareness. To evaluate my website, Laura used a HP Elite Book, small laptop and firefox web browser.

Brianna Dyer, Haley O'Dell, and Katherine Stepanek are all fellow Web Design students who have given me feed back based on the conent of my site and how it looks and acts. They were all so supportive and gave me feedback and helped give me ideas with code. They also pointed out some things I did not notice on my own. They are doing this project as well so I have taken their comments with a great deal of respect because they are helping me to become a better web designer.

Summary of Evaluators' Comments

All of my evaluators work with the same exact students as I do day in and day out. They know the clientel I am trying to hit and have been working with these studetns longer than I have. For the design aspect, they are all in agreement that I did a fairly good job of uncluttering the space. Laura liked my colors and background but said I should try using different fonts to make keep the page uncluttered but to add some variety. Lisha thinks the website was logically in order and was color-coordinated but that I could use more vibrant colors to help identify the different parts of my website. Rhonda also says the links are clear and the table helps identify the corresponding resource links within the classes lessons. The colors are coordinated and the links change colors so she knows which links she has already clicked on. All the evaluators seem to be in agreement about the design of my website. The same goes for credability. Lisha does not explain her feedback but gives me all fives, I guess she thought it was self-explanitory. Rhonda agrees that I have kept the site credible and bias free. I do have rhe links up to everything and she says I did not copy right anything. Laura did notcie one thing that no one else did. She says I have a couple of typos, one in particular under order of operations in my algebra 1A S1 section. Laura also thinks my content is very straight forward and user friendly. Rhonda says the videos are going to be great for the students who need a refresher or more explanation of a lesson and contains great examples. Each link is clearly labeled and the link names match the page names for easy access. Lisha thinks it is clear and easily accessible to all students at any level to read and access. All in all my evaluators agreed for the most part but they each did point out things that can be improved upon.

Brianna pointed out some typos to me that I was not aware I made. She also gave me some ideas on how I can make my navigation links better. She also said that where my paragraphs were was not the best reading wise and thinks I can make a change there as well. She also talked about how I can create the links to open on a different tab in the web browser so my students do not get lost in the switch. Haley also pointed out some typos I made and agreed with Brianna that the paragraph on the bottom should maybe be placed at the top. Katherine noticed the paragraph aligns as well as Brianna did. They all liked my tables and said that they made the site user friendly.

Recommended/Planned Changes to the Design

I will, for starters, go back and spell check every text I have. Almlost every evaluator pointed out some typos to me. I will need to fix them and make sure I do not have any more. I will then go back and figure out a differnt way to disply the side paragraph on the algebra pages. On some browsers it appears on the right of the tables and on some it appears on the bottom of the table. Brianna, Haley, and Katherine all say that they think it would look best at the top of the page, right above the table; therefore, I will be moving that paragraph. I will also change some of my colors and make some of them more vibrant so that the students can better differentiate the different sections and links. I will not change the color scheme but maybe just pick a different variation of the same colors to that it is not so dull.I will also change the links to the resources so that they open on a different tab from my webpage per Brianna's suggestion. This should help the students not get lost from my page and the different links. I will also be adding a note on the footer that says the picture on the banner is made by the author. I was asked by Brianna and Haley if I forgot to credit the picture. I did not credit it as I made it but to be clear I will credit myself for that. The titles of the pages will get changed as well. I honestly forgot about titling the pages so every tab has the same title. I will change them to match the page they are on as not to confuse my students.

Reflections on Evaluation Process

It was very beneficial for me to see the evalutions from my colleagues, who were looking at the site and pertaining it to ease of use for our students, and for my fellow classmates who were looking at the site more from a content based view. Both groups gave me good feedback but it was interesting to see the differences. The evaluation pages were helpful. My evaluators were forced to give me feed back based on specific things and not just say "looks good" or "needs work". The evalutors from the web design class were looking at the content and could tell me what looked good or off based on what we should know from being in class thus far. They all had differnet view points which helped me be able to see my site how other people would see it and not just myself. Since the whole point of this website is to help my students, it was good to see how others would look at this website and see what changes I should make because that would help my students have lesson questions about how to use the site. I learned that it is important to get the veiws of many different people because just because it looks right to me or to a couple of people, does not mean it looks that way to everyone. There is always room for improvement.
